Pure Beginner Flamenco

This class is to introduce the novice to the basics of Flamenco dance and rhythms.
Areas covered:- posture, arm and hand movements, footwork technique and strengthening exercises, marking steps, palmas and flamenco rhythms.

Students will learn the basic rhythmic structure of many flamenco dance forms including Tangos, Sevillanas, Soleares and Bulerias.

During these classes we will attempt to strengthen posture and develop line and attitude.

From the foundations of this class students can progress to beginners classes where a deeper focus on technique and rhythmic structures will be explored alongside choreography in these particular rhythms.


Andalucian Gypsy Flamenco

 

SEVILLANAS / TANGOS CHOREOGRAPHY

On-going class. Classes are on Sevillanas and Tangos!

Pre-requisite: completed Flamenco Beginners, or some experience (please talk to your Instructor).

 

SOLEARES CHOREOGRAPHY WITH CASTANETS

Classes focus on Castanet technique and Soleares Choreograph.

On-going class. Pre-requisite: please talk to your Instructor.

* With over 18 years experience with Andalucian/Gypsy Flamenco., Kayla's introductory Beginners and post-beginner Choreography courses provide you with an understanding of the rhythms, passion, and raw energy of Flamenco. She will train your posture, co-ordination and help you develop the physical strength in order to learn whole pieces of Flamenco choreography. For more on her biography, click here.

Background

As far back as the 16th Century, Flamenco was a synthesis of, at least, the four cultures of the Gypsies, the Arabs, the Jews, and indegenious Andalucian spaniards.

Attire: Beginners

Senoritas - Comfortable attire is fine, a full skirt is optional but recommended if you have one.
Shoes - Most important that your shos are comfortable, closed in footwear with a solid 1 to 2 inch heel i.e. character shoes / fashion court shoes are fine. Cuban heel recommended. Please no spiked heels or strappy sandals, they can be dangerous.

Senors - Comfortable trousers and shirt.
Shoes - Most important that your shoes are comfortable. Solid closed in shoes or boots preferably with a Cuban heel.

Attire: Continuing Students

Kayla imports flamenco shoes, boots and accessories from Spain; she also can have skirts made locally for you. See Kayla for more details.

Kayla's Instructor and THE #1 sought after Flamenco dancer in the world made a surprise visit to Kuala Lumpur at the WhikeRoom Billique Bistro. Pictures will be updated soon!

Vaqrgas is known internationally with his virtuoso choreography and Flamernco dancers who have also been seen in movies like "Strictly Ballroom" and "Mission Impossible 2".
